Easter Roundup for Palestine

“Reconciliation, difficult, but indispensable, is a precondition for a future of overall security and peaceful co-existence, and it can only be achieved through renewed, persevering and sincere efforts to resolve the Israeli- Palestinian conflict,” Pope Benedict said today in front of the loggia of the 16th century St. Peter’s Basilica in his Easter message.
How Christians Invented Zionism: An Easter Thought: President John Adams is an example of that trend:
More ardently still, John Adams envisioned "a hundred thousand Israelites...[as] well disciplined as the French army" marching into Palestine and conquering it. "I really wish the Jews again in Judea an independent nation," the ex-president wrote...in 1819.
Easter celebrated by Roman Catholics in Gaza:
(Side note: while watching this, Google ads showed me an add for Jdate asking if I was interested in Israeli girls. I can't help but think how strange that would be for say, Catholic supporters of Palestine.)
Today is Easter for many Christians - but not all. In Palestine, many observe the Orthodox date. For all of them, and all of you - happy Easter, may all of us be blessed with peace on this day and forever more.

I don't listen to the Pope when it comes to either Palestine or Israel. The Catholic Church does not have a very good track record on Israel, Jews and Muslims. I personally think this particular Pope would like the Crusades to return.

Charles,
I wanted to add one thing as I just read your comments from your previous post. I don't know if this particular Pope cares for Arabs, but he has gone on record, saying that he feels a need to protect Arab Christians against Islam. One interpretation of this Pope is that he is secretly jealous of Islam as the followers that he observes are devout, while many Catholics are falling away from the church. He would like to see a revival in Catholicism that replicates Islam--when I say Islam, I do not say fundamentalism, as that is a radical fringe, but genuine Islam, which too many confuse with Osama's thugs. Just as Jews lived thousands of years prior to the Israeli state, so did Muslims live before fundamentalist terrorism.
