Favorite Links of the Past Week

Published May 22, 2009 @ 08:39AM PT

Still waiting for the moving-fairies to make an appearance - in the meanwhile, my favorite links from the past week:

- Mo'dernity, Mo'problems points out that the UN is hiring for Somalia.  A Millennium Development Goals cartoonist, to be exact.

- From Peace Corps 2008 - 2011, a list of the top ten unexpected dangers in rural Kenya.  My personal favorite is #7: "Rushing to save a child from being murdered only to find that it is the sound of a goat being born."

- A short post by Rob Crilly on RPG etiquette at Chinese restaurants in eastern Chad.

- Alanna Shaikh at Blood and Milk on how it's not the size of the NGO that matters.

- Interesting post by Texas in Africa on "badvocacy", in response to the Enough Project's Come Clean 4 Congo campaign.  I don't necessarily agree with the analysis, but much food for thought.

- Cashewman points out the World Health Organization's 11-step instructions for how to wash your hands.

- A great piece on Aid Watch about the three worlds of an aid worker in Lagos.

- Chris Blattman's random field work thoughts, including "Note to self: amend vehicle policy to include 'No animal carcasses to be transported in the vehicle, no matter how much profit they will fetch in the Monrovia market.'"

- Finally, my genocide co-blogger Michelle's thoughts on Bashir's recent 'I didn't do anything wrong' interview with the BBC.

Particularly enjoyed "walking behind a cow" as a Top Ten Unexpected Dangers in Rural Kenya - let's say, I understand the unspoken from experience! :)
