International Church Action for Peace in Palestine and Israel - June 4-10, 2009

Published November 04, 2008 @ 08:47AM PT

Those Christians are at it again! Supporting peace, reconciliation, Palestinian rights and all the rest of it. Fancy that.

World Council of Churches affiliates that want to do so will have support for a whole array of actions, including visits to I/P with the Ecumenical Accompaniers program (EAPPI), lobbying in home countries, education and more.

Why, you ask?

"To seek justice for Palestinians so that both Israelis and Palestinians can live in peace. This year is 60 years since the partition of Palestine hardened into a permanent nightmare for Palestinians. It is also 41 years since the occupation of East Jerusalem, the West Bank and Gaza overwhelmed the peaceful vision of one land, two peoples. This year’s celebrations of the establishment of the State of Israel reflect the fulfilment of one dream at the expense of another. The action week’s message is that now ‘It’s Time for Palestine’: It's time for Palestinians and Israelis to share a just peace; time to end 60 years of conflict; time for freedom from occupation; time for equal rights; and time for the healing of wounded souls."

Sounds good to me. If you are connected to World Vision or Pax Christi, they are also joining up even though they aren't part of the World Council of Churches. If you've been on one of these trips and want to report back on this site - let me know.
